Privacy Policy — Make Me Smarter
Effective date: 14 October 2026
Make Me Smarter (“the app”) is developed by makemesmarter (“we”). This policy explains how the app handles your information.
Summary
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google’s ads software collects some information from your device to show and measure them (see Advertising). Supporters see no ads.
- Apart from the ads, the app does not collect, upload, sell or share your personal information, and it has no analytics or tracking.
- There is no account or login, and your progress stays on your device.
- You can also play in a web browser at https://makemesmarter.in/play/. The web version has no ads and no Supporter purchase, and keeps your progress in your browser (see Web version).
Information stored on your device
The app saves two kinds of information in a database on your device:
- your quiz progress: levels, scores, streaks, achievements and statistics
- your settings, such as theme, sound and reminder time
We cannot see or access any of this information.
Advertising
The app is free, and ads help pay for it. Ads appear below the buttons on a results screen, at a checkpoint after every 20 questions of endless practice or a climb, and there, now and then, under the right answer after a mistake (at most once in five mistakes). They never appear while you answer a question, and not in your first few sessions. With the one-time Supporter purchase, the app shows no ads at all.
The ads come from Google AdMob. To show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud, Google’s ads software in the app collects:
- your device’s advertising ID and app set ID
- your IP address, from which an approximate location can be worked out
- how you interact with the ads, such as views and taps
- technical details, such as the device model and the ads software’s diagnostics
The app asks only for ads suitable for a general audience (Google’s “PG” rating). Google uses this information under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. How Google uses information from apps that show its ads: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app uses Google’s consent form to ask for your consent before ads are personalised. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → About → Ad privacy choices.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings, usually under Privacy → Ads or Google → Ads.
The app never gives Google, or anyone else, your progress, answers or settings: those stay on your device.
Backups
If Android backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may include the app’s data in your device backup in your Google account. This lets your progress be restored when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. Google handles this backup under your Google account settings and the Google Privacy Policy, and we never receive it. You can turn backup off in your device settings.
Export and import
If you use Settings → Export progress, the app creates a file containing your progress, and you choose where to save or send it (for example Google Drive or email). The file goes only where you send it. Import progress reads a file you pick and does not send it anywhere.
Sharing
If you tap Share on a result, or Share the app, Android’s share menu opens with a short message. You choose the app to send it with, and it goes only where you send it.
Feedback
If you choose Send feedback, your email app opens with a message you can edit before sending. The message includes basic technical details (the app version, the Android version, the phone model and a recent error log) to help fix problems. You can remove these details before you send. Nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, the app schedules notifications on your device. No information leaves your device.
Permissions
- Notifications: used only to show the daily reminder you turned on.
- Run at startup: used only to set your reminder again after the phone restarts.
- Internet and network state: used only by Google’s ads software, to load ads. Everything else in the app works offline.
- Advertising ID and Android’s ad services: used only by Google’s ads software, as described under Advertising.
- Keep awake and foreground service: declared by Google’s ads software, for its own background tasks.
Third-party services
- Google AdMob shows the ads, and Google’s User Messaging Platform asks for consent where the law requires it (see Advertising). Both are covered by Google’s privacy policy.
- The occasional “rate this app” card is Google Play’s in-app review feature, covered by Google’s privacy policy.
- The optional one-time Supporter purchase is handled by Google Play; the app only keeps a note on your device that the purchase was made.
The app has no analytics or crash-reporting services of its own.
Web version
You can also play Make Me Smarter in a web browser at https://makemesmarter.in/play/. It works like the app, with these differences:
- It has no ads and no Supporter purchase, and no reminders, profiles or “rate this app” card, so Google’s ads software is not part of it.
- Your progress and settings are kept in your browser’s storage on your device, where we cannot see them. Clearing this site’s data in your browser erases them, and some browsers clear it by themselves after some weeks without a visit, so use Export progress (it downloads a backup file) to keep a copy.
- The pages, and the fonts they use, are served by GitHub Pages, which GitHub runs. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address and browser details when the pages load: https://docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement. The web version loads nothing from anyone else.
- Share uses your browser’s share menu, or opens your email app if the browser has none. Send feedback includes the app version and a recent error log, but no device details.
Children
The app is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Deleting your data
Your progress is on your device. You can erase it in any of three ways:
- Settings → Reset progress
- clearing the app’s storage in Android settings
- uninstalling the app
In the web version, use Settings → Reset progress, or clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings.
Information collected by Google’s ads software is held by Google. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (see Advertising).
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, for example if optional cloud sync is added, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change goes live.
